Songs To Hear Now.... & my "Gig-Rigs"....

Here's one of my favorite new songs.... "Marry Me" by Train....

I just recorded this "live" in my studio, one-take straight thru.... I hope you enjoy it !

These songs were all recorded "Live"...  Straight through, no studio trickery, no overdubs,
fixed mistakes, or "auto-tune" nonsense.

I hope you enjoy 'em !

Me & Boo in the backyard - March 2013

This song was recorded "Live" in a nightclub in L.A. . I put a laptop backstage & recorded the set...

           "Penny Lane" - The Beatles

These next 4 songs were recorded "Live", only one take allowed... at my friend Philippe's studio in Woodland Hills, CA.

"Kiss From A Rose" - Seal                              "She Talks To Angels" - The Black Crowes

"These Are The Days" - Keith Urban                    "In My Life" - The Beatles

One more thing... I don't like to use drum machines, or backing tracks... These songs all sound great with an amplified acoustic guitar & voice -

"Fields Of Gold" - Sting                                             "Tears In Heaven" - Eric Clapton

Here's my new Lanakai Koa Ukulele..... I use it for "Over The Rainbow", "Hey Soul Sister", "One Love" by Bob Marley, even some U2 & Beatles songs...  It's got a great-sounding pick-up built-in, so I can play it through my amplifier, just like an acoustic/electric guitar.

This is my "Gig-rig".... I'm honored to be an official Taylor Guitars artist. Bob Taylor has created some of the most incredible-sounding acoustic guitars I've ever played.... My main instrument is a 2006 Taylor 814ce Acoustic/Electric Guitar, equipped with the Taylor Expression pick-up system, and a Fishman Loudbox 100 amplifier. This is a World-Class, top of the line combination of the finest-sounding equipment available.... I have several other guitars & amplifiers, and a Bose "Stick" sound system for different applications. This particular set-up is great for Indoor & Outdoor events up to 300 people, providing exceptional sound for acoustic guitar and voice, requiring practically zero space....

When I play a Beach Wedding, or a location without AC power, I bring a different set of equipment..... This is an Epiphone AJ-200 S Acoustic / Electric guitar, and a I've just replaced this Line 6 "Micro-Spider" with 2 Roland "Micro-Cube" battery powered amplifiers. I can plug a microphone and guitar or ukulele into these amps, with separate controls for each. This is an extremely portable & versatile system for smaller gatherings, in unique locations...

I've been playing lots of ukulele lately, it's a great sound that really lends itself to a surprising number of songs, from Bob Marley to U2 to The Beatles.... Since the concert ukulele only has 4 strings, it isn't possible to play all the parts in certain songs, like "Here Comes The Sun" or "Hotel California".... To accomplish this, I made a hybrid instrument with 6 strings, strung & tuned exactly the same as my ukulele. It's much smaller than a guitar, about the same size as a tenor ukulele, but the 2 added strings allow me to play all the parts, and still retain that beautiful ukulele "island-vibe"... It's got a Seymour Duncan pickup built-in & it sounds incredible... Between these 3 instruments, I can play anything.
